5 Things to do in Richmond This Summer

鈥淪ummertime and the living is easy.鈥  Those words are more than just the lyrics of a song from the opera 鈥淧orgy and Bess.鈥  They also perfectly express the way most of us feel about the months of June, July and August.

Summer is a time when the living is easy鈥.or at least, easier.  Warm (okay, hot) days and balmy nights.  Outside activities and al fresco dining.  Who doesn鈥檛 love the sun-kissed and star-lit pleasures of summer?

We sure do in Richmond and here are five reasons why.

Music at Chenault Vineyards:

Come this fall, a dazzling new outdoor amphitheater will debut at Chenault Vineyards, bringing a new level of musical entertainment to Richmond.

But in the meantime, as they say in show biz lingo, 鈥渢he show must go on.鈥  And it will on the vineyard鈥檚 temporary stage July 18th when Nashville-based country music sensation Easton Corbin performs his hits such as 鈥淎 Little More Country Than That,鈥 鈥淎ll Over the Road,鈥 and 鈥淒idn鈥檛 Miss a Beat.鈥

Come see why he won New Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2010 American Country Music Awards.

The Music Lingers on:

More music is in store on August 1st with the finale of the Summer Music Series at Richmond Centre.聽 Boogie G and the Titanics, considered by many to be the Bluegrass State鈥檚 best dance band, will provide the sounds, and local food trucks will provide the nourishment for music lovers to keep going strong.

A Beer Fest to Benefit our Best Friends:

Most of us would do anything for our furry friends, right?  And most of us would have no trouble downing a few cold ones to stave off the summer heat, also right?

Well, you can do both at Hops & Vine, Richmond鈥檚 annual craft beer festival on August 9th at the Hub in The Quarter-Downtown Richmond where proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Madison County.

The Hub is located between downtown businesses on Water Street, and the festival will be hosted by one of those businesses, Apollo Pizza.

So, get ready for some pizza and brews along with some swinging sounds by country music singer/songwriter Arlo McKinney.

The dogs and cats of Madison County will thank you.

And Even More Music in a Historic Setting:

You can tell we really like our music here in Richmond, and we enjoy nothing more than our annual favorite 鈥淧ops at the Park,鈥 scheduled this year for August 16th.

Held on the grounds of White Hall State Historic Site, it will mark the 42nd year for the evening of elaborately decorated tables and imaginative costumes to fit the theme.

This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淟et鈥檚 Take Flight,鈥 focusing on the history of aviation, so get ready to 鈥榗ome fly with us鈥 at this year鈥檚 Pops at the Park.

From Music to Mustering and Marching:

A different kind of music is likely to fill the air during the Battle of Richmond Re-enactment which will be spread out over two days, August 23rd and 24th.

The re-enactment is an homage to the second largest (after Battle of Perryville) Civil War battle fought in 福利姬视频.  But things won鈥檛 get too contentious as there will be only one hour of 鈥榖attle鈥 each day when re-enactors engage in mock skirmishing .  And while they will use real muskets and real cannons for the benefit of spectators, they will not use real ammunition (also for the benefit of spectators.)

The rest of the time focuses on drilling and marching, and inspection of both Union and Confederate camps.  Also available will be period artisans such as blacksmiths, weavers and suttlers who will demonstrate their work, along with guided walking tours of the battlefield.

And don鈥檛 forget the Vintage Baseball Game (Saturday only at 10:30 a.m.)

Come spend some of those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer here in Richmond.  We promise you a rollicking good time.
